Water

An average adult should drink about 2 to 3 liters water a day. If the water is dirty it poses a huge health hazard for a human. People in Kenya often suffer under various diseases and the origin most of the times lies in the dirty and contaminated water they drink. The people get the water from rivers which are dirty. The solution is to supply clean drinking water with the help of water filters.

What are we doing?

The Problem

Rivers are the water suppliers for most people in west Kenya but those rivers are contaminated with pathogens. Thus people get sick and suffer under epidemics.

The Solution

Pure Water constructed two filters: one for households and one for public institutions.

The first filter, the household filter, works in two steps. Firstly, layers of sand and coal cleans the water from sediments. Secondly, the SODIS method cleans the water from pathogens.

The second filter, slow- sand- filter, which is designed for hospitals and schools, creates on top of the sand a layer of bacteria which clean the water from pathogens.
